The SHONEN JUMP CHANNEL has released an animated promotional video to commemorate the RuriDragon manga’s third tankoubon volume, which will be out on March 4 JST.
Set to ZUTOMAYO‘s 2022 song “MIRROR TUNE,” the short anime video features simple but satisfying manga panel-style framing (a highlight is the scrolling section near the beginning) and delectable character animation. Be sure to stay for the liberating dance sequence at the end.
The video’s animator is the illustrator coalowl, whose anime credits include Chainsaw Man Ep 4’s ending (as storyboard artist, director, and key animator) and Nornis’ “Johari” music video (dance choreography).
Masaoki Shindo‘s RuriDragon follows a teenager who discovers she is half-dragon. It debuted in June 2022 in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump and released six chapters prior to a break which ended in March 2024. The first post-break chapters were released via WSJ, but the manga later transferred over to the magazine’s digital version as well as Shonen Jump+ starting April 22, 2024 JST. The release schedule was also changed so that new chapters would come out every other issue.
The manga placed first in the Zenkoku Shotenin ga Eranda Osusume Comic (Comic Recommendations by Bookstore Employees Nationwide) 2023 ranking and was ninth in the male reader category of the Kono Manga ga Sugoi! (This Manga Is Amazing!) 2024 guidebook.
Manga Plus has RuriDragon in English, describing it as the “story of a young dragon girl being lazy, doing her best and being lazy again.”
