Death Stranding Mosquito, an anime film inspired by Hideo Kojima‘s DEATH STRANDING video game, has been revealed with a teaser trailer filled with mystery and hand-to-hand combat between two individuals, one of whom has a black, gooey “mask”. The movie’s name is a working title.
Hiroshi Miyamoto (Hug! Pretty Cure Futari Wa Pretty Cure: All Stars Memories, Precure Dream Stars!) is directing the film at ABC ANIMATION STUDIO. The script is written by Aaron Guzikowski (Prisoners, Raised by Wolves), who was announced to be attached to the project earlier this year.
The livestreamed Beyond the Strand presentation explained that the movie’s subtitle is related to the main character’s ability, and that the visuals involve the combination of inky line art with colored layers. The background art studio is Studio Easter.
Death Stranding Mosquito is part of the “franchise expansion” plans for the Death Stranding IP. The Death Stranding game was first released in 2019 as the debut title of KOJIMA PRODUCTIONS. Death Stranding was originally a PS4 exclusive before making its way to PC, App Store, and Xbox Series X/S. A sequel titled Death Stranding 2: On the Beach was released on June 26, 2025.
The games feature The Walking Dead‘s Norman Reedus as player character Sam Bridges. Other recognizable names have also appeared in the games as important characters or cameos, with Death Stranding 2: On the Beach including the presence of Ghost in the Shell director Mamoru Oshii and hololive VTuber Usada Pekora.
