Rascal Does Not Dream Anime Heads Back to Theaters in 2026 - After a 2018 TV series, one 2019 movie, two 2023 films, and a Summer 2025 TV anime, the Rascal Does Not Dream anime series is getting a new movie installment titled Rascal Does Not Dream of a Dear Friend (Seishun Butayaro wa Dear Friend no Yume o Minai) to wrap things up. An announcement trailer was released for the movie, which is debuting in 2026.
Rascal Does Not Dream of a Dear Friend is also the title of the original light novel series’ 15th and final main volume, which was released in Japanese in October 2024 and will be getting an English release from Yen Press on January 6, 2026.
The core staff lineup for the Rascal Does Not Dream of a Dear Friend movie hasn’t been revealed, but the Rascal Does Not Dream anime series has so far maintained director Soichi Masui, series composer Masahiro Yokotani, character designer Satomi Tamura, and music composer fox capture plan across its entries. The animation production studio for the adaptations is CloverWorks.
The cast members have included Kaito Ishikawa as Sakuta Azusagawa, Asami Seto as Mai Sakurajima, Reina Ueda as Miniskirt Santa/Toko Kirishima, and Manaka Iwami as Miori Mito.
The Rascal Does Not Dream light novel series comes from the The Pet Girl of Sakurasou duo of Hajime Kamoshida (writer) and Keji Mizoguchi (illustrator). The Dengeki Bunko series sees protagonist Sakuta Azusagawa getting involved with people with supernatural problems, beginning with his high school senior Mai Sakurajima and her invisibility issue. The first volume, Rascal Does Not Dream of Bunny Girl Senpai, was published in 2014, and a short story collection was released in July 2025.
