The Summer Hikaru Died Gets 2nd Season - The onscreen story of Yoshiki and “Hikaru” is set to continue, following the announcement of a second season of The Summer Hikaru Died TV anime. No release date for the new season has been announced at this time. What has been revealed aside are an announcement video and visual, which depict Yoshiki and “Hikaru” on a beach.
The Summer Hikaru Died‘s first season aired during the Summer 2025 anime season and ican be found on Netflix. The premise of the supernatural horror and queer youth anime, an adaptation of the KADOKAWA-published manga by Mokumokuren, involves teenager Yoshiki grappling with the appearance of an entity with the appearance and mannerisms of his best friend Yoshiki, who went missing in the mountains near their village months ago.
Ryohei Takeshita (Jellyfish Can’t Swim in the Night and Eromanga Sensei) handled the series direction and series composition for the anime, with character designs from Yuichi Takahashi (Vivy -Fluorite Eye’s Song- and Mononoke The Movie: The Phantom in the Rain character designer). CygamesPictures was the animation production studio.
Chiaki Kobayashi starred as Yoshiki Tsujinaka, while Shuichiro Umeda played the titular Hikaru Indo. The manga began serialization on the Young Ace Up website in August 2021 and has seven volumes as of July 2025. Yen Press publishes the series in English.
