Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin Sequel Novel Gets TV Anime - Tensui no Sakunahime: Kokorowa Inasaku Nisshi, a 2021 sequel novel to the 2020 action RPG Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin, is getting a two-part TV anime special. Part 1 will drop on February 15, this year, while Part 2 will follow on February 22. Like Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin‘s 2024 TV anime series, Masayoki Yoshihara (The Eccentric Family, Komada A Whisky Family) is handling directorial duties at P.A.Works.
Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin‘s premise sees the Princess Sakuna banished from the Lofty Realm of gods and spirits to the Lowly Realm of mortals, where she has to worry about demon slaying and rice harvesting. The game, developed by Edelweiss and published by XSEED Games and Marvelous USA, Inc, has a mix of 3D farming sim and 2D side-scrolling action platformer gameplay. Tensui no Sakunahime: Kokorowa Inasaku Nisshi, which written by Keiji Ando and published under Shueisha’s JUMP j BOOKS label, sees Sakuna’s close friend Kokorowa getting involved with harvesting as well after an incident.
In November 2024, it was announced that a Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin sequel anime would be produced. Also revealed then were the spin-off game Sakuna Chronicles: Kokorowa and the Gears of Creation and a mobile title. The original game first launched in November 2020 on PS4, Switch, and Steam. It was later released on Epic Games Store in 2021.
